SOMR 2004 Line-Up At the crew welcoming BBQ on the evening of Friday January 2 2004, much interest centred around which boats would actually start in the 2004 SOMR. There were the expected entries - Slick Willie - a Grainger designed MTB 920 much campaigned by owner/builders Craig Unthank and Chris Culph Wilparina 2 - Carbon F31 from Victor Harbour, South Australia and campaigned heavily by owner Rob Remilton with son Philip. Various crew have helped during the nearly 20 000 Kilometres road travelling around the east coast of Australia in participating at many Regattas and events in 2003. The boat has a slightly shorter than normal mast due to bridge clearance factors on their home waters. Mustang Sally
- an Ostac F31. Alastair Bennet's racing and cruising boat (they Red Shift - George Bulka's recently acquired F28 originally built locally. Raw To The Core - a custom 28' racing cat design by the Crowther office. The boat is used as a development vessel for owner Martyn Riley's "real" racer, the 57' 'Raw Nerve'. This SOMR, the small cat had experimental winglets on the rudder tips to help improve it's attitude. Trifle - Vince Gardiner's evergreen Trailer tri 720+ still looking and going great. Cascade - Alex Macnaughtan's modified Crowther 46' Spindrift cat that still holds the Bass Strait crossing record. Pacifica - a custom 40' racing cat with an interesting spreader arrangement on it's wing mast. The boat is owned and sailed by David and Cathy Guy. Pages Bookshop - originally a Tennant 26' racing cat now a lightly raced 29' 'sports cruiser' according to owner/builder/designer Phillip Hames. Bullfrog - Geoff Hunter's 6.7m Scarab prototype tri.
Quickskips - a Farrier F9AX recently acquired by Tims Pepperell and Clarke and Robin Reiger. The boat is over 18 months old but had never been in the water. A great looking racer/cruiser. Cruise Missile - Schionning Waterline 50' cat. Owner Wayne Huxley was working 20 hour days for the last 3 weeks and first presented on day 3 of SOMR to start sorting out this great looking 6 tonne cruiser. White Wave
- 28' tri owned by Juris Rubenis. Heavily modified with huge wing mast,
asymmetric daggerboards at 45 degrees in the floats and a special planing
section aft in the main hull. Arrived day 2 but a lot to tune.
